The Moulin de Champs is a grain mill in Ambrières-les-Vallées. Its main construction phase dates back to the 15th century; the complex has been documented since 1440 and has been preserved in remarkably good condition. The protected complex includes the weir and ford on the Varenne, the miller's house, the communal bread oven, and the mill with its mechanism and grain-processing equipment. It was listed by decree dated 2 November 1995.

The Musée des tisserands mayennais has been recognised as a “Musée de France” under the French Heritage Code since 17 September 2003. It is housed in three authentic 18th-century weavers' houses and is dedicated to the history of hemp, which was a major crop in Bas-Maine, present-day Mayenne.

Landscape

The former railway line between La Chapelle-Anthenaise and Ambrières-les-Vallées has been converted into a greenway. From Ambrières-les-Vallées, it provides a connection to the Vélo Francette cycle route.

Activities

The Circuit de la Varenne is an easy, 11-kilometre circular hike starting in Ambrières-les-Vallées. It runs between the Mayenne and Varenne rivers and can also be started at the Parc de Vaux campsite.

The “Cité médiévale et lac de Haute Mayenne” route is a 9.1-kilometre circular hike connected to the regional public transport network, Aléop. It follows the shores of Lac de Haute-Mayenne and leads onto a plateau characterised by bocage landscape, crossed by a greenway.

At “Canoë-Kayak d'Ambrières-les-Vallées – Parc de loisirs de Vaux”, canoes and kayaks are rented at the water sports centre on Lac de Haute Mayenne.
