The Cité Mariale in Pontmain has been a pilgrimage site since the apparition of the Virgin Mary to children from the village on 17 January 1871.
Culture
The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Pontmain was built in 1874 and consecrated in 1900. It is designed in the Neo-Gothic style using granite. The parish church of Saint-Simon-et-Saint-Jude has medieval origins and contains a granite baptismal font dating from the 14th century.
Pontmain’s religious history also includes the chapel of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate and the Mission Museum. The chapel is decorated with stained-glass windows designed by Gabriel Loire. The Mission Museum traces the history of 4,500 missionaries throughout the world since the beginning of the 19th century.
The Chapel of Lights contains a 21-square-metre mosaic. It is located at the entrance to the basilica and is open day and night. The Grange Barbedette, also known as the Grange de l’Apparition, has largely retained its former external appearance.

Along the Circuit entre Glaine et Futaie circular trail, the ponds of Chaussée neuve can be visited via wooden walkways in this wetland.
