Hercé is home to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, which was rebuilt in 1869 on the site of an earlier church dedicated to Saint Peter. It features a carved high altar made of tuffeau limestone. Anyone choosing Hercé for a stay will want to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture and history
In the cemetery of Hercé stands an 18th-century cross decorated with lilies and featuring sculpted sides. The Dolmen de la Pierre consists of an imposing pentagonal capstone measuring 3.80 metres long and 0.80 metres thick. It rests on two low support stones and forms a polygonal chamber.
The Dolmen de la Pierre is considered unique in the Mayenne département and a very rare simple dolmen. It is visible from the path without having to enter the property. The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Hercé can be visited by prior request.
The Château du Bailleul is privately owned and located on the D33 at the entrance to Gorron. It originally belonged to the du Bailleul family; its earlier form is described for 1787 as a fortress with towers, double moats and two drawbridges. The Calvaire de la Courcière stands on the road from Gorron to Vieuvy.
Les 4 Siècles is a restored vernacular-style house dating from 1619, featuring beautiful natural stone, beams and original doors. At the Les 4 Siècles bed and breakfast, products from the owner's vegetable garden are used and guests are introduced to Irish specialities.
Events
The community festival in Hercé on 27 April 2025 included the free 8.5-kilometre hike “Le tour de Hercé”, starting at the church square. A Class OPEN 3 access U19 cycle race organised by Bocage Cycliste Mayennais was also scheduled as part of the same community festival.
