Culture and History

The Sainte-Anne de Champfrémont Chapel dates from the mid-17th century; its construction was begun in 1630 by Abbé Étienne Jouy. In 1973, it was completely restored by volunteers. It has a wooden vaulted ceiling, three wooden altarpieces and a polychrome terracotta statue of Saint Anne dating from the 16th century.

Next to the chapel is a former police station that was once used to house cattle thieves on market days. The restored Maison du Maquis de Courtemiche served as a refuge for members of the Resistance, including young men who refused to perform the compulsory labour service (STO).

La Bellière is a 17th-century château; the park plan was designed in September 1802 by E.-A. de Vaucelles. The château, the service-building wing, the façades and roofs of the 19th-century outbuildings, the moats and the gardens with their enclosures have been listed as a historic monument since 6 September 1995.

The grounds of Château de La Bellière can be visited from May to September by prior arrangement, on Thursdays or Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Every year, they are also open during the European Heritage Days on the third weekend of September.
