Ruillé-Froid-Fonds: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Culture and history

The Église Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais dates from the 12th century and has preserved its Romanesque architecture. The Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Froid-Fonds is a 12th-century church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. On 15 August, a Mass is held there to celebrate the Assumption of Mary.

François du Puy had Château Le Puy built on his land in Froidfont around 1650. At the end of the 17th century, he had the chapel added to Château Le Puy. The chapel features a large tuff altarpiece and original 18th-century stained-glass windows that have been restored.

Château Le Puy is listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments (ISMH). The listing covers the buildings of the main courtyard, the large farm buildings, the garden and the park with its hornbeam arbour. The grounds of Château Le Puy – the chapel, park and gardens – are open to visitors from 15 July to 31 August from 12 noon to 6 p.m., as well as during the European Heritage Days.

Landscape

The park of Château Le Puy lies between two ponds connected by the moat around the garden.

Hiking and trails

The Circuit Les Trotteurs in Ruillé-Froid-Fonds, circular route no. 10, is 19 km long. It can be completed on foot in around 5 hours, on horseback in around 3 hours or by mountain bike in around 2 hours; all three options are rated moderate.
