Trails
The Sentier du Renard runs between the Chemin de Montbault and the Rue de la Caille. Nuaillé also has the circular route “Chemin des Poteries au Chemin de la Gilbertière”.
Nature
The Argilières des Poteries are an area classified as an Espace naturel sensible (ENS) in the municipalities of Vezins and Nuaillé, east of the village of Les Poteries. They combine a clay-dominated landscape with bocage hedgerows, ponds and wet meadows. At the same time, the Argilières des Poteries preserve a landscape shaped by historical clay extraction, where clay was obtained for roof tiles and bricks.
History
The Church of Saint-Étienne in Nuaillé was rebuilt in 1830. The origins of the village centre date back to the founding of a priory. This priory belonged to the Burgundian Abbey of Tournus in Saône-et-Loire and later came under the authority of the Priory of Cunault near Saumur. A cenotaph in Nuaillé commemorates Henri de La Rochejaquelein, who died in Nuaillé during the Vendée Wars. A small chapel was rebuilt in 1862 using older materials.
Culture
The recently renovated chapel of the presbytery is located near the presbytery garden, which is currently being redesigned, and the greenhouse. The presbytery garden comprises four thematically designed areas. Behind the chapel of the presbytery stands a brick dovecote.
Local
At Montbault Fournil, the sourdough bread “Mélépeautre” is made and baked on site in a wood-fired oven. A spelt variety called “blé des Gaulois”, dating back to the 12th century, is also cultivated there.
