Culture
The parish church of Saint-Caprais et Saint-Laurent was built between 1862 and 1866 on the site of the former parish church. Its plans were drawn up by the architect Pierre-Étienne de Coutailloux. The church has a basilica-style floor plan in the shape of a Latin cross, with a nave divided into four aisles and four bays, a transept, a single-bay choir, and a semicircular apse.
Two chapels are also part of Loiré’s architectural history: the Chapelle de la Grande-Potherie was built in 1890 and has a false barrel vault, as well as brickwork in the wall bonds, cornice, and side openings. The Chapelle de la Babinaie was built in 1896; its openings feature tuffeau stone surrounds.
Several châteaux complete this historical picture. The Château du Gué lies near the centre of Loiré and, because of its history, was the most significant château in the municipality. The Château de la Rivière-d'Orvaux was built in the 1860s to plans by René Hodé, the Château des Noyers between 1845 and 1847, and the Château de Vallière around 1765. The Château de la Ferté lies north of Loiré on higher ground.
