Pouancé: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The medieval Château de Pouancé was built in the 12th century and has six towers. The Grenier à sel of Pouancé was built at the beginning of the 16th century to collect the gabelle, the salt tax; it is one of 250 comparable structures throughout the kingdom, including ten in Anjou.

Culture

The Château fort dit Vieux Château was classified as a historic monument on 7 July 1926 and listed as a historic monument on 16 October 1931. Advance reservation with the tourist office is required to visit the medieval Château de Pouancé.

The Église Saint-Aubin has a 19th-century altarpiece depicting the Assumption of the Virgin Mary by Delavante, as well as recently restored wall frescoes. Around 1110, the Bishop of Angers, Renaud III de Martigné, transferred the Église Saint-Aubin to Marmoutier Abbey near Tours.

Atelier Legault is a former 19th-century textile factory in the town centre of Pouancé that has been converted into an exhibition space.

Nature and activities

The Sentier des 7 clochers is a 13.2-kilometre hiking trail that starts and ends in Pouancé. It passes through shady sunken lanes, agricultural landscapes, and natural and landscaped areas.

The Anjou Sport Nature leisure centre in Pouancé offers supervised bathing areas during the summer season, as well as mountain biking, gyropode rides, an aqua park and a water sports centre with kayak, paddle boat and pedal boat hire.

The tram-train station on the Châteaubriant–Nantes route is 20 km from Pouancé. In the wider region around Pouancé are the historic Camp de Choisel site and Abbaye Notre-Dame de Melleray.
