The outdoor game “Intrigue à Chanzeaux” introduces families and groups of friends to the history of Château de Chanzeaux through an outdoor investigation. At Château de Chanzeaux, a one-hour guided tour explores the transformation of a bourgeois house in the Directoire style into an Angevin Neo-Gothic château and includes the surrounding 33-hectare park. The Angevin Neo-Gothic building was constructed by architect René Hodé for Rose and Théodore de Quatrebarbes.
The “Les Coteaux de Chanzeaux” trail is an easy 6.26-kilometre circular walking route that begins and ends at the Église Saint-Pierre de Chanzeaux and crosses very old bridges, including the photogenic three-arched bridge of Couton. Along the edge of Layon and Mauges, it passes through a hilly landscape between the slopes and the Hyrôme valley. The church preserves a 13th-century bell tower and was rebuilt in the Neo-Romanesque style in 1898–1899. It has 75 stained-glass windows, including the largest depicting the Communion de la Coulée de Fruchaud, and is open year-round with free admission.
The Chapelle Saint-Ambroise was rebuilt by Mlle Jaugeray after its destruction and placed under the protection of Saint-Ambroise and Sainte-Barbe. The local residents, mostly weavers, bought it from the Seigneur of Chanzeaux. At kilometre 1.68, it is a stop on the “Saint-Ambroise autour de Chanzeaux” circular route.
Nature
The “De Saint-Ambroise à Chanzeaux” hiking trail is a 6.3-kilometre, family-friendly circular route on foot that begins at the Poizeaux leisure area. It follows the meanders of the Hyrôme through denser vegetation; the Hyrôme is a tributary of the Layon.
“Le bocage de Chanzeaux” is an easy 8.62-kilometre circular hike in Chanzeaux. On this circular route, hikers can discover the local heritage through the mills located along the trail.
