Nature
A traditional story explains the name Puits d’Enfer with a fisherman who broke his marriage vow. A storm then hurled his boat against a rock and split it apart.

At Les Salines, visitors can meet a salt worker and experience authentic explanations and demonstrations; children can harvest salt themselves.
Culture
The Musée des Traditions Populaires is housed in a former school dating from 1891 and presents the daily life of the people in the Pays d’Olonne at the beginning of the 20th century, a region shaped by maritime and rural traditions. The six exhibition rooms focus on traditional crafts, costumes and bonnets, rural interiors, the tools of salt workers, farmers and winegrowers, a distillery, a classroom, and memories of the First World War. The museum also offers a playful tour for children.
The Musée Le Blockhaus des Sables d’Olonne comprises 20 rooms in a 350 m² hospital bunker. The rooms have been preserved in their original condition since 1943 and carefully furnished with contemporary objects from the occupation period. The history of the town from 1939 to 1945 is conveyed through illustrated information panels, an educational film, and life-size scenes featuring figures in contemporary clothing.
Blockhaus 118c was built in 1943 as a first-aid station and hospital for receiving lightly wounded people.
