Culture and history

The former Château in La Garnache is partially protected as a Monument historique. The motte-and-bailey castle mound next to the Château already existed in the 10th century and was equipped with a wooden keep.

The Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption was built from 1899 onwards and completed in 1926 in the Neo-Romanesque style. It houses high-quality furnishings and a remarkable banner commemorating the Battle of Lepanto. The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Victoire dates back to the 14th century and was extensively restored in the 18th century by Father de Montfort.

La Garnache’s heritage trail presents local legends, historic monuments and preserved traditions. The Grand'Rue follows a winding route that recalls La Garnache’s former fortified medieval town centre.

Nature and trails

The Forêt de Puits Neuf is a type 1 ZNIEFF natural area that extends, among other places, across the municipality of La Garnache. It includes a large wet forest, former flooded sand pits and a small marshland area.

The La Boutine circular trail passes through gently undulating terrain and the characteristic bocage landscape. The Circuit de La Garnache à Saint-Jean-de-Monts starts at the cemetery in La Garnache.

Market

The Marché de La Garnache features a fishmonger, greengrocer, cheesemonger, butcher, charcutier and oyster farmer on Wednesday mornings.

Other town pages include Mouilleron-Le-Captif, Commequiers, Angles, Chavagnes-les-Redoux, Saint-Fulgent, Maillé, Saint-Hilaire-La-Forêt and Saint-Philbert-De-Bouaine.
