Palluau: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Château de Palluau was built as a fortified castle in the 13th century and rebuilt for Marshal de Clérambault in 1661. It has been a ruin since the fire of 1793 and is partially protected as a historic monument.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Gilles was rebuilt in 1887 on the site of the former church and the adjoining cemetery. In Palluau’s town park, the Stèle des Martyrs stands between the Church of Saint-Gilles and the Château. It commemorates victims from Palluau who died defending their faith between 1793 and 1796.

Rue Louis XIII is one of the oldest streets in Palluau. A coat of arms bearing the year 1576 is located on the door of house no. 8.

The Calvaire on Rue du Moulin du Terrier was brought back to life by the association Les Amis du Rigolly and its approximately 15 volunteers. The volunteers meet regularly on Monday afternoons. During the Grande Mission of 1936, it was decided to erect a new reinforced-concrete cross for this Calvaire.

Landscape and Trails

The Rigolly Gazon divides the municipality of Palluau into two parts at the Pont Chanterelle locality.

The Sentier du Pas Meunier passes through villages and hamlets typical of the Bocage. The trail is 7 km long, takes around two hours, and is marked in yellow. It passes the site of a former mill near La Naulière and crosses the Pas du Meunier stream via a bridge.

The communal pond (fishing) is located in the center of Palluau, near the church and the Château, and connects the two parts of the town. The body of water is used by anglers and walkers and has picnic tables as well as a leisure area with a children’s playground.

Sentier n°2 Palluau starts at Parc Chanterelle and passes between buildings dating from the 16th century. It also runs along the Rigolly-Gazon stream, offering a break in nature there.

Nature and Leisure

The Musée de l'Hyménoptère is dedicated to the world of eusocial or nest-building insects such as bees, bumblebees, wasps, hornets, and ants. It offers educational visits for groups, individual visitors, and families. Guided tours last an average of 45 minutes.

The municipal campsite L'Aire du Verger is closed in 2026.
