Oulmes is home to the Notre-Dame d’Oulmes church, with a largely Romanesque sanctuary and transept, a dome over the crossing, and a bell tower. The church in Oulmes was classified as a historic monument on 26 December 1930.
The Château d’Oulmes includes horseshoe-shaped farm buildings, which were constructed from the late 17th century onwards, as well as a pavilion built between 1759 and 1764. The present Château d’Oulmes stands approximately on the site of the old château; its staircase has been preserved in the farm buildings. The Château d’Oulmes is listed as a historic monument.
The preserved Moulin de Pacouinay is also one of the town’s historic buildings. It was restored in 1816 and motorised in 1900.
The historic site of Abbaye Saint-Vincent is located in the immediate vicinity of Oulmes. The historic site of Abbaye de Maillezais is also in the vicinity of Oulmes, as is the historic site of Ancienne Abbaye de Saint-Liguaire. The Château de Sazay is located in the wider regional area around Oulmes.
Getting Around
The “Balade de Oulmes à Liez, chemin des vieux moulins” route starts and ends in Oulmes. It follows a signposted path to the Mausolée d’Oulmes, built in 1936, and can be undertaken by car or bicycle.
There is also a cycling loop that passes through Oulmes and includes the town as a stop.
