Culture

The Chapelle Saint-Georges is a rare rural religious building in the Loire-Atlantique département, dating from the second half of the 17th century. It is the surviving part of a priory founded around the 13th century by the Augustinian monks of Notre-Dame de Paimpont Abbey.

The Voie des Capitales pilgrimage route connects Mont Saint-Michel with Santiago de Compostela and passes through Beslé, Guémené and Guénouvry. The Chapelle Sainte-Anne de Lieu-Saint is associated with a pilgrimage tradition in which people have always prayed for protection for crops and livestock, as well as for the purification of the soul and body.

Landscape

The Chapelle Saint-Georges is located along hiking trails in the Don Valley. The Chapelle Sainte-Anne de Lieu-Saint stands above a wide, gently rounded landscape through which a small river winds.

At Les Rocs de Gascaigne, two former quarries can be discovered along the “Rocs de Gascaigne” hiking trail.

Activities

The Centre équestre de Juzet is located on the banks of the Don, 3 kilometres from the centre of Guémené-Penfao, and welcomes visitors all year round. During the school holidays, it offers courses with examinations leading to diplomas.

Guémené-Penfao has the Circuit de Carabosse mountain-bike course. There are also cycling routes to Plessé, Conquereuil, Pierric and Derval, as well as to the station and port of Beslé-sur-Vilaine; they connect the municipalities via quiet minor roads.

The l’Odéon cinema shows films every weekend and offers occasional screenings during the week.

The marché Guémenéen takes place every Friday morning in the Rue and on the Place de l’église.
