Coast and nature

Surtainville beach is supervised during the summer season at Brèche de l’Eglise. The landscape includes the Surtainville dune massif, which is part of the protected Natura 2000 natural area “Banc et récifs de Surtainville”. The dunes have marked paths along which visitors can explore this natural area between heathland, beaches and cliffs.

Surtainville is also home to the Surtain Surf School, located in the immediate vicinity of the surfing areas. It offers various packages to suit the needs and wishes of its guests.

The GR®223 stage from Sciotot to Hatainville is 18 km long. The Étang and the ruins of the Chapelle Saint-Ergouêfle are located along the GR®223.

The history of the dune area is also linked to coastal protection: the Surtainville dunes were among the very first acquisitions of the Conservatoire du littoral in Normandy. Saint-Pierre Church in Surtainville contains a slate pavement bearing the name Pierre du Pou.

Getting there

Surtainville can be reached by car via the D904 towards Les Pieux or Barneville-Carteret. For travelling from the nearest railway stations in Valognes or Cherbourg, possible bus connections via the Cap Cotentin network are listed, including route s9 between Les Moitiers-d’Allone and Bricquebec-en-Cotentin.
