The Haute Ville is the historic district of Granville. It was founded by the English in the 15th century. A stay in Granville may include renting a holiday apartment.

Culture and History

The Musée d’art moderne Richard Anacréon houses a permanent collection of paintings, sculptures and bibliophile works by important artists and authors of the first half of the 20th century. The Parcours historique et maritime connects 30 sights relating to the area’s maritime, military and seaside-resort heritage, distributed throughout the municipality.

The Musée Christian Dior is located in Christian Dior’s family home, the Villa «Les Rhumbs», where haute couture collections are exhibited. The Abbaye Sainte-Trinité de La Lucerne church is located in the vicinity of Granville.

Festivals and Events

The Carnaval de Granville is a four-day festival held before Mardi Gras, attended by members of the community and residents of neighbouring municipalities. It begins with the mayor handing the city keys to the Carnival King and includes parades of floats accompanied by fanfares.

The Carnaval de Granville includes public balls for different age groups, a confetti battle in the town hall square and a costumed night of intrigue.

Coast and Landscape

The 15th-century northern rampart offers wide views of the Chausey Archipelago and overlooks the Grève du Nord. The Promenade Charles VII offers views of the north-western coast of the Cotentin.

Bathing cabins can be rented along the centrally located promenade of Plage du Plat Gousset; the beach faces the Chausey Islands. The garden of Villa Les Rhumbs is situated above the sea and faces the Chausey Islands and Jersey.
