A technical testimony to the rural surroundings is the Moulin de la Roche-Garret mill. It has a functional milling mechanism with a 3.5-metre overshot water wheel, 37 paddles, stone millstones, belts, a bucket chain and a sifter.
History
The park and Château de la Touche-Villeberge are located in Montanel and belonged to the Guiton family for several centuries. The church and village of Montanel lie on the Roman road from Legedia (Avranches) to Condate (Rennes).
An event from more recent history was the crash of an RAF Stirling I bomber on 28 February 1943 at La Réboudinière in Montanel. The aircraft crashed while returning from a mission over Saint-Nazaire.
The former forge in Montanel has been opened for occasional visits.
