Sainte-Marguerite-d'Elle: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Manoir de la Rivière in Baynes is a listed manor house in Sainte-Marguerite-d'Elle. Its main construction phases date from the 16th and 17th centuries. Culture

The Chapelle Saint-Hubert-du-Prey is rectangular, 15 metres long and 4.5 metres wide. Its foundation is believed to date back to 1621: at that time, the Bishop of Bayeux, Pierre Hue, sieur du Prey, authorised the construction of a chapel dedicated to Saint Hubert.

In the hamlet of Baynes stands the Church of Croix Hurault, built in 1875. The older bell tower of the Church of Sainte-Marguerite dates from the 17th or 18th century. The Church of Sainte-Marguerite also has three figurative stained-glass windows from the 19th century.

A wooden and sheet-metal chapel erected by American troops during the 1944 landings was later replaced.

Nature

At the southern edge of the Sainte-Marguerite plateau, the chapel is set in green surroundings with beautiful oak trees and overlooks the Elle valley. The hamlet of Baynes in Sainte-Marguerite-d'Elle borders the Forêt de Cerisy.

Geographical setting

The first track of the Caen–Lison–Cherbourg railway line was inaugurated on 17 July 1858. The railway facilities extend across the three municipalities of Moon-sur-Elle, Lison and Sainte-Marguerite-d'Elle.

Cycling

As a designated cycling tour, the route begins in Moon-sur-Elle and runs via La Meauffe and Saint-Clair-sur-l'Elle to Sainte-Marguerite-d'Elle.
