Wambrechies: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Château de Robersart was once the residence of the lords of Wambrechies and was restored by the municipality as a cultural venue. The château is designed in the Renaissance style and uses local red brick as well as white stone from Lezennes.

Culture and history

The Église Saint Vaast is a neo-Gothic church with stained-glass windows designed by Haussaire, which were restored in 2004. The Château du Cliquenois is the oldest surviving manor house in Wambrechies and dates back to the 16th century.

The Linière Nicolle is a former flax spinning mill and is officially recognised as protected industrial heritage. The Château Claeyssens was built in 1845 and is characterised by a central square tower, brick and slate architecture, and park-like wooded grounds.

The Distillerie Claeyssens has been producing a renowned genever since 1817. Its building is classified as a historic monument. The Fort du Vert Galant in Wambrechies is a military memorial site where 90 hostages and members of the resistance were executed.

Nature and trails

The Parc de Robersart offers paths, ponds, an arboretum, a recreational area and playgrounds for walks or picnics. The 9-hectare Parc de Robersart includes a developing arboretum along a seasonal walking route.

The grounds of Fort du Vert Galant include a forest, a pond and a glacis largely reclaimed by nature. The Étang du Vert Galant is a one-hectare pond in a landscape characterised by hills and woodland. Herons, kingfishers, bats, foxes, muskrats, woodpeckers, pheasants and rabbits, among others, can be found there.

Experiences

The Musée de la poupée et du jouet ancien organises activity workshops on afternoons during the shorter school holidays. The Circuit du Genièvre includes a 3.5-kilometre loop and a 12-kilometre loop, starts at the Château de Robersart, follows the Deûle and crosses the countryside.

The Tramway touristique du Val de Deûle offers a ride on a historic tram from the early 20th century along the Deûle; boarding is possible in Wambrechies.

By the water

The Port de plaisance de Wambrechies has 30 berths and allows both overnight stays and boats to remain moored year-round. The Association nautique de Wambrechies announced a season of one-hour Sunday trips on an electric boat; reservations were made on site at the marina landing stage, next to the harbour master's office, between 2 and 5 p.m.
