Culture and Architecture
Le Colysée offers artistic, educational or recreational exhibitions as well as cultural events throughout the year. When planning a stay in Lambersart, you may wish to make renting a holiday apartment your priority.
Each exhibition at Le Colysée includes cultural accompanying programmes such as conferences, film screenings, performances for children, workshops for children and parents, and walks. Le Colysée is a modern exhibition centre whose construction was made possible by Lille 2004, European Capital of Culture. It is located at the intersection of the Haute Deûle from 1278 and the 1978 large-vessel navigation branch, and was designed by architect Pierre-Louis Carlier.
Villa Saint-Charles at 193 Avenue de l’Hippodrome is a château-style villa complex in the Flemish Neo-Renaissance style. Villa Lecomte at 60 Avenue Bailly-Ducroquet is a town house built in 1932 in the Art Deco style, made of concrete and featuring a bow window and a portico with a floating canopy.
Villa Saint-Georges at 218 Avenue de l’Hippodrome was designed in 1892 by architect Albert Baert for his business partner Georges Boidin. It has been listed as a historic monument (Monument historique) since 2001. The tower portal features a mosaic by Maison Coilliot depicting Saint George defeating the dragon.
The Église Saint-Calixte was built in 1894 and inaugurated in 1896; its architecture combines Romanesque and Gothic elements. The bell tower portal contains the Jésus bell from 1603, which is listed as a historic monument (Monument historique).
Nature and Trails
Parc du Clos Saint-Pierre is a 13,201 m² wooded area with a largely natural character and several old trees, including a very old chestnut tree classified as a “remarkable tree of France”. The park is home to protected species such as hedgehogs, tawny owls, songbirds and squirrels.
Parcours du Papillon is a 4.9-kilometre fitness trail that runs through Bourg and the Canteleu district to the banks of the Deûle.
The wet garden lies somewhat lower and arranges its aquatic vegetation across various levels and reliefs; it is inspired by Asian gardens.
Orientation
Twenty tourist information panels have been installed in all of Lambersart’s neighbourhoods. They help visitors discover places of notable historical, landscape and architectural interest, including sixteen panels in the Zone de Protection du Patrimoine in the older, mainly southern urban area.
