Sérignac: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Geographical location

Sérignac is located on the Quercy Blanc plateau between Cahors and Villeneuve-sur-Lot. The commune includes the village centre situated on the edge of the plateau, as well as smaller hamlets belonging to Sérignac, which contain numerous architectural features of interest. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Sérignac can include the village in their travel plans.

Culture and history

In the eastern part of the village centre, situated on the edge of the plateau, stands the Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste above the valley of the Saint-Matré stream. The church was rebuilt in the 17th century on the remains of an earlier building and has been protected as a historic monument since 15 November 1993.

The church’s altarpiece is particularly noteworthy: it is considered one of the most remarkable examples of Baroque altarpiece art in the Lot. It was gilded or regilded and embellished in 1775 and 1776. Its features include a fully gilded wooden tabernacle and statuettes between the scenes arranged on carved panels. The altarpiece itself has been listed as a protected object since 20 May 1910.

The remarkable Château de Sérignac adjoins the Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste. La Maïsou is also one of the village’s characteristic buildings: the large bourgeois residence has a cellar dating from the 11th century.

Ferrières is a former parish with a public square, the Church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine and a château. Construction of the present Château de Ferrières began in 1775, was interrupted by the French Revolution in 1789 and remained unfinished. The façades and roofs of the château have been protected as historic monuments since 21 July 1960. The building combines 18th-century neoclassical elements with preserved medieval sections, including two towers at the northern corners of the courtyard.

Paths and landscape

The Chemin de Floressas à Sérignac is an easy, yellow-marked hiking trail covering 7.5 kilometres and taking around two hours. After passing through the village arch, the trail reaches the centre of Sérignac. Around Ferrières, rural paths invite visitors to explore the surroundings of the hamlet.

Another historical point of interest is the restored historic washhouse, Lavoir de Miraval. The washhouse is supplied by a spring emerging from a rock fissure, which feeds a fountain and a small washhouse. On the opposite side of the road is a concrete washhouse with a double basin separating the washing and rinsing areas. The Lavoir de Miraval offers visitors a panoramic view.

Further landmarks

The Bois des Garroustes dolmen is a double dolmen enclosed by a circular tumulus with a diameter of 17 metres. The Saint-Jean-Baptiste festival also takes place in the centre of Sérignac.
