Geographical location

Masclat lies on the borders of Lot and Dordogne and is an ideal base for discovering the Dordogne Valley and the Causses du Quercy. Sarlat is 20 minutes away, and Rocamadour half an hour.

Culture

The Château de Masclat was listed as a Monument historique by decree of 16 May 2007. It has an H-shaped floor plan; its partly underground cellars preserve numerous medieval remains. The Château de Masclat stands directly next to the Église Saint-Hilaire.

The Église Saint-Hilaire preserves a Romanesque portal that may date from the late 12th or early 13th century. Its first known mentions date from 1083, 1143 and 1183.

Traditions

Together with Sainte-Mondane and Veyrignac in Dordogne and Milhac in Lot, Masclat is one of the four villages that founded the Confrérie de la mique in 2012 to ensure that this traditional dish lives on. The 13th edition of this gathering took place in Veyrignac on the first Sunday in December, traditionally chosen for this event.
