Culture and History
The Église de Lentillac was classified as a historic monument by a decree dated 14 February 1938. The bell tower with portal of the parish church of Notre-Dame in Lentillac bears the date 1821.
The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Verdale and its surroundings in Latouille-Lentillac have been listed as a protected landscape and historic monument area since 1 October 1943. The chapel was built in the 13th century. Its present condition dates from the reconstruction in 1847; the building is set against the slope of the deeply incised Tolerme valley. The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Verdale is a pilgrimage chapel, probably built on the site of a former hermitage. Inside is a gilded wooden statue of Notre-Dame de Verdale dating from the late 19th century.
The church of Notre-Dame de l’Annonciation in Lentillac is partly Romanesque and was extensively altered several times, particularly in the 17th and 19th centuries. On the outside, it preserves a remarkable series of modillions depicting monsters, animals and human heads, including a particularly expressive bearded figure. Its masonry also contains two reused Romanesque capitals.
The Fontaine de Lentillac includes a stone livestock trough and a small basin for watering livestock. At the Moulin de Fourniols, a weir, the remains of the inlet channel and the remains of the mill chamber with the wheels that once powered the millstones have survived. The Sentier des Arts passes through a forest featuring unusual works of art.
Nature
The Tolerme is a remarkable mountain stream in the Ségala. Its water foams and tumbles between granite or gneiss boulders through wooded, V-shaped gorges. Biniquel lies in a meadow clearing surrounded by wooded slopes and has an old chestnut grove.
The cool, clear waters of the Tolerme and Cayla are home to protected white-clawed crayfish and brown trout.
Trails
The Chemin des 3 églises is a local trail that provides insight into the landscape and the relationship between people and their surroundings. The circular hike “Lentillac et la chapelle de Verdale” is 11.9 kilometres long, is undertaken on foot and starts in Latouille-Lentillac.
