Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Quirin was completely rebuilt in the Gothic style at the end of the 15th century. It has a broad nave with six rib-vaulted chapels and a five-sided choir supported by buttresses. It also houses a remarkable altarpiece and 17th-century woodwork from the Carthusian monastery of Cahors. The fortifications of the Church of Saint-Quirin appear to have been built at the same time as the reconstruction, making the church one of the defensive elements of Lalbenque’s town walls.

The Caselle de Nouel was built around 1850 and, at 5.45 metres high, is the tallest caselle in the region. With its enclosure, it served on the Causse to shelter the flock during storms or to gather it for care and counting; around 30 sheep and lambs could be assembled there.

Nature and Trails

An easy 10.8 km hike combines geology and rural architecture. It passes among prehistoric dolmens, historic dry-stone walls, centuries-old oak trees and fragrant truffle plantations, as well as well-preserved gariottes and caselles, castles and the Fontaine de La Rouquette.

Other destinations: Esclauzels, Saint-Sulpice, Goujounac, Padirac, Uzech, Saint-Pantaléon, Le Bouyssou, Rueyres.
