Culture and history

The Viaduc de Vernajoul was built in 1893 during the construction of the railway line between Foix and Saint-Girons. It has 14 arches, is 230 metres long and 35 metres high. The Romanesque church in Vernajoul, which dates back to the 12th century, is also part of the town’s cultural heritage.

Paths and activities

The Chemin de Loulié is a named path in Vernajoul; it was inaugurated on 21 October 2023. A hiking guide from 2023 is available for this path.

The Voie Verte Foix–Saint-Girons is a 40-kilometre route that can be used by bicycle, on foot or on horseback. It has a stabilised surface, only slight changes in elevation and a protected route.

The Boucle du Saint-Sauveur hiking route begins and ends at the car park by Vernajoul Town Hall; the starting and ending point is at kilometre 8.02.

Nature and water

Along the Boucle du Saint-Sauveur route, rabbits, foxes and deer can be observed if visitors behave calmly.

L’Île Ô Pagaies is located on the banks of the Ariège beneath lime trees in a natural setting. By reservation, the facility offers supervised activities such as rafting, canoe rafting, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and tree climbing.

L’Île Ô Pagaies is located on the Voie Verte and can be reached on foot, by bicycle or by vehicle; from Foix railway station, it can be reached by bicycle in about ten minutes.
