The Lac de Montbel, created in 1985, is a 570-hectare artificial reservoir bordered by forests, valleys and wild beaches. The Association des Naturalistes de l’Ariège set up an observation station on the lake to observe the area’s numerous birds.

Les Rives de Montbel offers stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing, pedal boating, sailing and boat hire. In July and August, Les Rives de Montbel also has a supervised beach.
A loop of around 16 km runs around Lac de Montbel and can be completed on foot, by bicycle or on horseback.
Culture and History
Saint-Vincent de Montbel has been mentioned as “ecclesia de Montebello” since 1318; its present appearance dates from the 1846 reconstruction and renovations in the 20th century. Its features include nine contemporary stained-glass windows with geometric decoration.
Montbel’s war memorial, created by Ariel Moscovici in 2002, is entitled “Entre deux montagnes” and is a unique granite sculpture.
The Chapel of Saint-Sernin du Villaret can be attributed to the Romanesque period of the 11th to 12th centuries based on its features. It houses a painting of the Adoration of the Shepherds.
From the 15th century until 1970, Saint-Sernin du Villaret was a branch of Saint-André du Peyrat and was completely renovated in the 1990s.
