Nature and Landscape

Le Peyrat is one of the municipalities within the Type 1 ZNIEFF area “Lac de Montbel et partie orientale du bas pays d’Olmes”.

History and Culture

Until the mid-19th century, Le Peyrat was an industrial centre specialising in the manufacture of horn combs and leather processing.

The Costes-Bez horn comb factory in Le Peyrat closed around 1960 and was subsequently reused by the Ariélux businesses.

At the end of the 13th century, the Church of Saint-André was the parish church of the communities of Mireval and La Bastide de Congoust.

The year 1649 above the portal of the Church of Saint-André probably indicates a reconstruction following the Wars of Religion.

On the route from the Voie verte to Lac de Montbel, the church in Le Peyrat is mentioned as a sight to see.

The Au bout du fil bookbinding workshop is located in the building of an old mill.

The Fontaine de Turet formerly served as a place for rest stops and procession stations. According to tradition, it was once located in the centre of the old village of Mireval.
