Culture and History

La Chapelle-Devant-Bruyères combines a complex religious history with distinctive traces from various periods. Of the original Saint-Jacques chapel, only the bell tower and the former choir remain. The former choir and the bell tower of the Église du hameau de Saint-Jacques were registered as historic monuments by decree of 16 July 1984.

Another historic site is the Église Saint-Jacques du Stat, which dates back to the Carolingian period. It was extended in 1878 and subsequently given its final form. Individual visits without a guide are possible; guided tours are available on request.

The connection with Saint James also remains present throughout the year: Every year at the end of July, the Les Amis de Saint-Jacques association holds a festival in honour of Saint James the Elder. His feast day is 25 July.

Landscape and Water

The Les étangs du Moulin complex covers 30 hectares. Of this area, 17 hectares consist of water surfaces distributed across eight ponds.

Hiking

The US Trail 3: Col de l'Arnelle is a 9.9-kilometre circular route with 155 metres of elevation gain. The trail is rated easy and takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. It passes through a predominantly wooded area where fierce close-quarters combat took place and Nisei soldiers were able to take up a strategic position.
