Verneuil-Moustiers: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The historic building heritage of Verneuil-Moustiers includes the dovecote of the Château de la Tour aux Paulmes. Based on its architectural features, it can be dated to the 15th or 16th century. As part of the historic monument, the dovecote is partially protected; the dovecote itself is fully protected. Inside, 533 nesting niches are arranged one above the other: the regular arrangement comprises six rows below and six rows above the flight opening.

Culture

The parish church of Saint-Marc also preserves several notable pieces. It houses a locally made statue of the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus from the 16th century, which is associated with a cult that is still active. The church also contains the 19th-century statue “Vierge à l'Enfant dite Notre-Dame des Victoires”; its polychrome finish is of more recent date.

The altar of Moustiers consists of a rectangular granite block with a superstructure. All four sides feature bas-reliefs. The pagan altar of Moustiers dates from the 2nd or 3rd century and has long served as the support for the cross of the former cemetery.

Nature

The Étang de Moustiers is part of the Natura 2000 site “Étangs du nord de la Haute-Vienne”. The Natura 2000 site including the Étang de Moustiers is a 172-hectare Special Protection Area. The Étang de Moustiers is also considered a particularly favorable habitat for the European pond turtle.

The Domaine du Fan is a retreat and event venue in a château on a 170-hectare estate at 87360 Verneuil-Moustiers. By car, the Domaine du Fan can be reached via the A20 as far as Saint-Sulpice-les-Feuilles; from there, follow the signs to Lussac-les-Églises and then take the D912, from which the Domaine du Fan is another five minutes away.
