Pionnat: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Pionnat, distinctive structures and archaeological remains meet paths along the Creuse. The Viaduc de Busseau-sur-Creuse was built between 1863 and 1865 and is partly located within the municipality of Pionnat.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Martin-de-Tours in Pionnat dates from the second half of the 13th century. Its west façade consists of regular granite masonry and features a pointed-arch portal. In the 14th century, a probably seigneurial rectangular chapel was added to its north wall.

The Church of Saint-Martin-de-Tours contains four choir stalls and a reliquary bust of Saint Dulcardus. The four choir stalls were placed under protection as movable historic objects on 14 November 1991.

The reliquary arm of Saint Eutropius is a 15th-century object originating from the Célestine priory of Les Ternes in Pionnat. It was placed under protection as a movable historic object on 30 October 1914.

The Oppidum de Châteauvieux is an archaeological site in Pionnat, more precisely in the Châteauvieux district. It is privately owned and has been protected as a historic monument since 1984.

The Ancienne abbaye des Ternes is a former monastery from the 14th century, founded for the Célestine congregation in Pionnat. Two L-shaped convent wings, an entrance portal flanked by two turrets, and a former bakery have survived from the former Les Ternes Abbey; the complex is privately owned. In Ménardeix in Pionnat, there are also the Neolithic dolmen and menhir No. 2 of Pierre Fade.

Hiking and Trails

RANDO PIONNAT offers hikes ranging from 6 to 15 kilometres in length, with varying levels of difficulty. The association organises at least two to three hikes per month in and around Pionnat; some RANDO PIONNAT hikes are combined with a picnic, a restaurant visit, or other activities.

The “Les berges de la Creuse” route runs from the centre of Pionnat to the Viaduc de Busseau along the right bank of the Creuse. GPX and KML files are available for this route, allowing the course to be transferred to a GPS device or another navigation device.

Water and Market

The “Le Moulin du Breuil” fishing section near Pionnat is a 600-metre-long recreational trout fishing course in the second category. The Pionnat market takes place on the first and third Friday of every month.
