The 8.6 km circular Les Roches de Murat hiking trail starts in Beissat and leads through rural countryside, a regional nature park and woodland. From the viewpoint at Roches de Murat, you can look out over the Rozeille reservoir. The summit offers a panoramic view; the harder granite there has resisted erosion.
Those who choose Beissat for their stay may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Nature and Hiking
The route to Roches de Murat takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes and is of medium difficulty. The path to Roches de Murat can be slippery in wet weather. The Esplanade below Beissat church is recommended as a parking area for the route. GPX and KML files are available for export to a GPS device or another navigation device.
Water
The Rozeille is a first-category river in Haute-Corrèze and runs through Beissat. Approximately 1.5 km downstream from the town centre, it is dammed by the Beissat dam, which is located in the territory of the neighbouring municipality of Magnat-l’Étrange.
According to the 2026 fishing regulations, the use of two fishing rods is permitted at the Retenue de Beissat on the Rozeille from 14 March to 20 September.
Culture and History
The Saint-Pierre priory in Beissat was affiliated with the Benedictine Abbey of La Chaise-Dieu in Haute-Loire. Beissat’s notable buildings include the parish church of Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul; two monumental crosses stand nearby. An altarpiece depicting the Virgin and Child is associated with Beissat.
In the nearby village of Viers, there is a fountain with two entrances. There are also two washhouses there.
Events
The music event “Abal” is scheduled for 27 August 2026 in the centre of Beissat. It begins at 6 p.m. with an introductory walk through Beissat and to its church.
Les Granités is a series of free live performances held every summer at cultural sites throughout the area. Les Granités events are also open to visitors passing through.
