Bonnat: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

At Place des Arbres, archaeological finds include remains from the High Roman Empire, possibly dating in part from around 30 BC to AD 20, as well as numerous burials from the Middle Ages and the modern era. Archaeological excavations there also indicated the former presence of a Notre-Dame church, which was destroyed in the 19th century.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Sylvain was fortified in the 15th century by the addition of curtain walls and machicolations with four corner turrets. A wooden bridge was built at Le Pont à la Chatte in the Middle Ages to cross the Petite Creuse; the site is part of Bonnat’s historic heritage.

The Château de Beauvais is privately owned, cannot be visited and can be seen from the outside. The Fontaine Saint-Sylvain is housed in a small stone monument built around the 1870s. The monument contains a statue of Saint Sylvain and a statue of the Virgin Mary.

The restored Lavoir de la Planche washhouse can be seen from the road. It was restored as part of an integration initiative by the Développement du Pays Bonnat-Châtelus association. The village of Râteau played an important role during the French Resistance. A motor-racing circuit was opened in 1997 in the wooded, 40-hectare park of the Château de Mornay.

Nature and Trails

The natural surroundings of the municipality of Bonnat include protected areas with forests, rivers, streams and trails, as well as diverse landscapes. Bonnat has a network of maintained, equipped and signposted hiking trails for occasional walkers and experienced hikers alike.

The Le Pont à la Chatte hiking trail is an easy, 5.5-kilometre circular route starting from Bonnat and takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes. GPX and KML files are available for transferring the hiking route to GPS devices or other navigation equipment.

There are signposted mountain-bike circular routes within the municipality of Bonnat. The proximity of the Petite Creuse and numerous streams in Bonnat makes fishing and swimming possible.
