In Lioux-Les-Monges, the Église Saint-Martial stands on a rocky hill. It was listed as a protected building by decree on 2 April 1969 and features a typical bell gable with paired openings.
The Jardin de la Cure includes a small vegetable garden tended by the village children. At the same time, the garden provides a place for peace and meditation. A book box invites passing travellers to exchange a book for a moment of tranquillity.
History and Village Life
The Fontaine St Martial supplied the village with drinking water and served both as a fountain and as a watering place for livestock. Until the early 1970s, local residents and livestock would gather at the Fontaine St Martial.
A small oratory dedicated to Sainte-Anne is regarded as an expression of popular piety.
Hiking Trails
The Chemin de Troupine is a 6-kilometre moderately difficult circular hiking trail that takes around two hours.
The Chemin du vieux chêne begins at the church square in Lioux-les-Monges. Along the trail, hikers discover the stone known as “au sacrifice”, which a legend associates with sacrifices from Druidic times.
The circular trail “Au coeur de l’alvéole” offers hikers insights into the layout of the village and the way the landscape can be interpreted.
