A green cycling route from Châtelus-le-Marcheix to Royère-de-Vassivière passes through Bourganeuf.
The “Cascades, landes et tourbières” GR de Pays is a 65-kilometre route with an elevation gain of approximately 1,950 metres. It begins in Bourganeuf at Place du Champ de Foire and can be explored on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike.

Culture and history
The medieval remains of Bourganeuf extend through the town’s streets.
In 1886, Bourganeuf became the third-oldest fully electrically lit town. In 1889, Bourganeuf was the first town to be lit by direct current that had been transported over a distance.
The Tour Zizim was built at the end of the 15th century to accommodate Djem, the son of the Ottoman emperor Mehmet II; Djem was known by the name Zizim. It extends over five levels, and its roof reaches a height of 35 metres above the ground. Visitors can climb the 99 steps of the Tour Zizim from the entrance to the attics.
At the Pôle des Énergies, a simulator is intended to enable visitors to observe the electricity flows generated and stored locally from photovoltaic and hydropower sources and to simulate switching household consumption to green energy.
