Porta: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture

The Église Saint-Martial de Courbassil dates back to the 12th century and was initially dedicated to Sant Quinti de Cortvassil in 1129.

The Château de Carol is one of the castles and defensive structures in Porta. It is historically associated with the former need for comital and later royal authority, as well as the protection of the population that sought refuge in the Carol Valley.

Hiking

Hiking trail PR No. 4 crosses the Carol Valley from Porté-Puymorens to Latour-de-Carol, passing through Porta along the way. The Randonnée des Trois Nations is a difficult 12.5-kilometre circular hike starting from Porta. It can be extended to the Porteilla Blanca d’Andorra, which is located at the tripoint of France, Andorra and Spain.

From PR No. 4, the long-distance hiking trails GR 7 and GR 107 can be reached by climbing through the Campcardos Valley and crossing the Ribera de Campcardos. The return journey on PR No. 4 can be made by train.

Nature

The Vallée du Campcardos in Porta was named after the former Campo Cardos summer pasture from the 13th century. Along the route, the valley has a rich botanical diversity. The largest and highest birch forest in the Pyrénées-Orientales is located on the shady slope of the Vallée du Campcardos.

Porta is one of the 15 municipalities in the Capcir-Carlit-Campcardos area. This area is designated both as a special area of conservation under the Habitats Directive and as a special protection area for birds under the Birds Directive.
