Estagel: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The restored Chapelle Saint-Vincent on the heights of Estagel is a pre-Romanesque chapel dating from the beginning of the 10th century. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Estagel is explicitly choosing this location when searching for accommodation.

Culture

The grounds of the Chapelle Saint-Vincent include an open-air theatre and a picnic area. Estagel is also home to the Église Saint-Étienne-Saint-Vincent, with a nave featuring a groin vault, side chapels and an unfinished Baroque bell tower dating from the 17th century.

Along the “Cami de Les Feixes” route, dry-stone walls and enclosures bear witness to a traditional building method and to agricultural terraces laid out around the Chapelle Saint-Vincent. The Villa Stagello association has restored these features.

The Château de Quéribus is located in the vicinity of Estagel. The Château d’Aguilar, the Força Réal mountain, the la Crèssa peak and the Pic d’Aubeil peak are also located nearby. The Château de Peyrepetuse and Le Castillet are located in the wider region around Estagel.

Landscape

The Agly flows through Estagel from west to east via the Agly Valley. Estagel is shaped by a microclimate favourable to viticulture; the wines are considered diverse, complex and full of character.

The Serrat d'en Bugader peak is located in the immediate vicinity of Estagel.

Things to do

A Train Rouge station is located on Avenue de la Gare in Estagel. The Train Rouge and the VéloRail offer journeys between Roussillon, the Agly Valley and the Fenouillèdes through a landscape of hills, chapels, tunnels and viaducts; Estagel is one of the stops listed.

The Bords d’Agly route can also be travelled by trekking bike or mountain bike. The hike to the Chapelle Saint-Vincent is approximately 6.1 km long, takes around 2 hours 15 minutes and has about 240 m of elevation gain.
