Cuisine
Céret’s weekly market takes place every Saturday morning in the city center. Depending on the season, it comprises between 100 and 200 itinerant vendors. At Céret’s market, producers and artisans offer food such as fruit and vegetables, seafood, cheese, pastries, honey, olives, wine, and other food products.
Anyone considering Céret for their stay and wishing to rent a holiday apartment can explicitly take this preference into account when planning.
Culture
The Musée d’Art Moderne de Céret was founded in 1950 by Pierre Brune and Frank Burty Haviland. It houses almost 300 exhibited works and more than 2,700 objects of modern and contemporary art. The museum includes a permanent exhibition and temporary exhibitions, as well as educational and outreach programs for all target groups.
The Musée de la Musique presents traditional and popular instruments from around the world, including oboes, flutes, string instruments, and percussion instruments. It is located in the former Hôpital Saint-Pierre, which was built in 1649 and is listed as a historic monument.
History
The Ancien portal de France is part of Céret’s former fortifications and consists of two towers and a vaulted passageway. Since 1949, it has been listed in the supplementary register of historic monuments.
The Château d’Aubiry is listed in its entirety as a historic monument. This includes the chapel, greenhouses, gardener’s house, terraces, park, all buildings within the estate’s enclosure, as well as the Oratoire Sainte-Marguerite.
The Pont du Diable is a stone bridge built in the 14th century. From the 14th to the 20th century, it served as the main connecting route between the two banks of the Tech.
The Église Saint-Pierre combines pre-Romanesque, Romanesque, 14th-century, and 18th-century architectural elements.
Nature
Céret includes the Tech Natura 2000 site and four ZNIEFF areas.
In the vicinity of Céret, the Ermitage Saint-Ferréol can be reached on foot from the Pont du Diable car park; the hike is stated to take one and a half hours.
