Culture

History

The Maison du Patrimoine et de la Mémoire André Abet is a place of collective remembrance located in the premises of a former factory. It commemorates the exodus of Spanish Republicans in January 1939, known as the Retirada.

Craftsmanship

Création Catalane produces Catalan espadrilles known as “Vigatanes” in a renovated former espadrille factory, preserving a traditional manufacturing process. In the adjoining Création Catalane shop, visitors can watch espadrilles being made in real time. Création Catalane also organizes guided tours during which visitors can learn about espadrille craftsmanship.

Nature

The Cami de la Retirada is a cross-border trail heading toward Alta Garrotxa in southern Catalonia. The protected, hilly natural setting of Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans, characterized by plateaus, enables outdoor activities all year round.

“La Balade Verte” (circular route no. 2, green) is a family-friendly, nature-oriented 10-km trail in the wooded heights of the town. The red circular route no. 9, “Du Mont Capell au Bois de la Ville,” is 28 km long and follows a large figure-eight route from the height of the border ridge through forests with refreshing springs. It is intended for experienced mountain bikers.
