Claira: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The municipal heritage trail uses 22 information panels at historic sites to guide visitors through the history of Claira.

Culture

The Church of Saint Vincent has Romanesque origins and was altered in the 14th century through the addition of side chapels. Its bell tower houses two bells dating from 1328. Inside, there is also a main altar reredos and an organ from the early 20th century.

Saint Pierre de Vilario is an old hermitage originally built on the remains of a village that has since disappeared. At the same time, Saint Pierre de Vilario is a leisure venue belonging to the town of Claira that can be rented for weekends and evenings. Saint Pierre del Vilar is a Romanesque building that was remodelled in the 19th century.

The Moulin de la Torre is a windmill built in a typically Catalan style from stone and Cayroux. In 2012, it was restored and decorated in the traditional manner by the Les Moulins de Claira association. Interior visits do not take place every day, but only on days organised by volunteers; during their events, bread made from the Moulin de la Torre's local organic flour is sold.

The grounds of Claira's historic watermill are used as a leisure venue. The mill dates from the 15th century and is connected by an irrigation canal to the embankments of the Agly. A windmill stands in the immediate vicinity.

Nature

The “Moulins et Chapelle” route is classified as easy, takes 2 hours and 30 minutes, has an elevation gain of 15 metres and is 8.7 kilometres long. As a hike, it leads to the Moulin de la Torre, Claira's historic watermill and the Saint Pierre chapel.

The route follows a cycle path through vineyards to the greenway and then continues between orchards and along the Agly, where herons may possibly be spotted.

Claira can be reached via the A9 motorway and the RD 83.
