Saint-Quentin-La-Poterie: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie has held the “Ville et Métiers d’Art” label since 1992. The town is home to almost 40 workshops run by potters, ceramicists and other craftspeople, all of which are open to the public year-round.

Culture

The Musée de la Poterie Méditerranéenne is housed in a former 16th-century oil mill. It covers around 400 m² over two floors, with eleven rooms, and contains more than 1,200 pieces of utilitarian pottery. On display are traditional glazed ceramics from Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie, as well as pipes and Terraillettes from the Job Clerc manufactory. The museum also displays 700 glazed, unglazed and utilitarian ceramics from the Mediterranean region.

La Maison, Capitale de la Céramique is a public reception and information centre at the entrance to the historic town centre; every craft workshop in the town is represented there by one of its works. The Salle d’exposition Joseph Monier hosts exhibitions including the Concours de la Jeune Céramique, the FRAC and the Journées Métiers d’art.

The Terralha ceramics trail brings around 20 European artists to the town centre. Their works are temporarily displayed in private spaces that are converted into exhibition venues for the occasion. Terralha is also a European ceramics festival held around 14 July. During the holidays, Atelier Terre offers introductory courses in ceramics and various clay-modelling techniques; the programme is aimed at beginners, families and children aged four and over.

Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie has been included as an attraction on the “Ancient Europe” route of the European Union’s World Heritage Journeys, where it is presented together with the Pont du Gard.

History

The base of the Tour de l’Horloge dates back to the 11th century. Visitors can climb a staircase to the third and top floor, where they can enjoy panoramic views over the Uzège region and the Duchy of Uzès.

Nature

The La Madone circular trail is a 7 km hike with a stated walking time of 2 hours. The Massargues circular trail offers a viewpoint over Roman millstone quarries. The Aven de Valorgues is a natural resurgence spring from which groundwater emerges after heavy rainfall.
