Peyriac-De-Mer: Holiday apartments and houses

Nature

The Étang du Doul covers 37 hectares. It is the saltiest of the French Mediterranean lagoons. The Étang du Doul and the saltworks are located along a migration corridor and provide important refuge and breeding areas for birdlife. The hike at the Étang du Doul crosses a wooden bridge over the water and offers views of a former saltworks.

Paths

Another stage of the GRP Sentier du Golfe Antique leads from Peyriac-de-Mer via Portel-des-Corbières to Sigean, covering 8.3 km plus 7.7 km. The cycling route “Étang de Bages-Sigean depuis les collines” includes a 9.2 km section from Bages to Peyriac-de-Mer, with 139 metres of elevation gain and 143 metres of descent.

History and townscape

The Oppidum du Moulin was a pre-Roman settlement inhabited by the Elisycians from the 6th century BC until the beginning of the 3rd century BC. The Église Saint-Paul dates entirely from the 14th century; machicolations and part of the battlements from that period have been preserved on its southern side. A varied collection of amphorae bears witness to barter involving salt and grain in exchange for wine, pottery and trinkets.

La balade des 5 sens is offered in Peyriac-de-Mer in even-numbered years as a gastronomic walk through the vineyards in spring. At L’Épicerie Vigneronne, visitors can discover wines from the Corbières and Languedoc-Roussillon as well as regional specialities; locally made handicrafts are also displayed.
