The Château de Pennautier was built from 1620 onwards and is influenced by the style of Versailles, including through the work of the architect Le Vau and the landscape architect Le Nôtre. Its main construction phase took place in the first quarter of the 17th century.

Culture

The interior of the Château de Pennautier can only be visited as part of a guided tour. The park can be visited freely and free of charge all year round and is classified as a Jardin Remarquable.

The cloth manufactory in Pennautier was founded in 1696 by Pierre Louis de Reich de Pennautier, received the title of royal manufactory in 1729, and developed under the direction of Tarbouriech into one of the most important manufactories in the region.

Château Auzias offers an approximately 45-minute visit to the estate, including insights into the vineyard and cellar as well as a tasting of its range of wines.

In the immediate vicinity of Pennautier is Château Comtal, a castle. In the area around Pennautier are Château de Baudrigue, a historic site, and the historic site Abbaye Saint-Pierre à Montolieu.

The circular route Les ponts de la Bastide Rougepeyre is 8.5 km long and takes about two hours, excluding a visit to the bastide. The circular route Bois de Pech Bruyer is 3.5 km long and takes one hour. The Circuit de la Louve is 9.5 km long and takes about two hours and 40 minutes. The Circuit du canal is 7.5 km long and takes about two hours.

The Circuit du canal leads to the La Douce lock and onwards to the double lock of Herminis.
