Culture and History
The “Phare aéronautique” site bears the “Patrimoine d’intérêt régional” label. The tower ruins of the Saint-Witz windmill are among the best-preserved windmill towers in Île-de-France.
The pilgrimage chapel of Notre-Dame de Montmélian was created from 1800 onwards by converting a barn and has survived to this day. It is often called the “Chapelle de Péguy” because Péguy spent an entire night there from 3 to 4 September 1914.
On Montmélian Hill are the ruins of a 13th-century manor house, known locally as the “Tour carrée”. The Moulin Saint-Wy windmill dates from the late 18th century and is the last windmill in Saint-Witz and the surrounding area; it is currently a private residence.
