Nature
The slopes and orchards of Saint-Prix were designated in 2002 by the municipality and the Val d’Oise département as a local sensitive natural area of special interest (ENSIL), in order to enhance them. Every year, an apple harvest takes place in the ENS orchards; the apples are bottled as 100% organic, locally produced apple juice.
Culture and history
The Église Saint-Prix, also known as the Église Saint-Germain, was built in the 13th century on the site of an older 11th-century building. The furnishings of the church in Saint-Prix’s Vieux-Village include works from the 16th to the 19th century.
The Château de la Chasse, originally called Chasse Mornay, is located in the state-owned Montmorency Forest within the Saint-Prix area and has been listed as a historic monument since 1933. The Cimetière Bosc, surrounded by the vegetation of the Montmorency Forest, has also been listed as a historic monument since 1933. The Fontaine aux Pèlerins has medieval origins dating back to 1300; it was associated with a pilgrimage that developed from the 15th century onwards around the relics of Saint-Prix.
The Tour du Plumet was built in 1863 in the state-owned Montmorency Forest as a 22-metre-high structure for hunting stays. Two educational trails begin at the Château de la Chasse: one focusing on forest ecology and the other on forestry techniques.
Trails and experiences
The “Sentier des Lisières” connects and provides access to tourist and cultural attractions in the municipalities it passes through via signposted sections. Around the Montmorency Forest, it is an almost 30-kilometre-long hiking trail covering the territory of 17 municipalities on the edge of this massif.
The “Histoire & nature gourmande” experience allows visitors to explore Saint-Prix’s Haut-Bourg independently. A digital tablet locates visitors and points out places of interest. The experience also conveys the rural identity and preserved terroir of Saint-Prix, with grapes, apples and honey.
In the Plaine Vallée area, bus routes now begin with number 15; the municipal transport information also refers to trains and line H.
