Saint-Siméon: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The church of Saint-Siméon houses a polychrome limestone statue of Saint Simeon Stylites dating from the 15th or 16th century. On the terrace, it bears the inscription “S. Siméon”; the statue is 124 cm long and 30.5 cm wide.

Culture and history

After the old church was destroyed, reconstruction of the church of Saint-Siméon began in 1868; it was consecrated on 7 November 1869. The church is Neo-Gothic and was rebuilt around 1868 using millstone, sandstone and brick. Abbé Emal, parish priest from 1870 to 1899, painted the interior of the church entirely in the Neo-Gothic style.

Village life

The Saint-Siméon village market takes place every Tuesday in the village square. The main washhouse has a tiled roof and green banks, illustrating the typical architecture of the Brie region. The restored washhouses form part of the local rural heritage.

History

The historic site of Ancienne Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Rebais is located near Saint-Siméon. The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Rebais is also nearby and is regarded as the former abbey church of Abbaye saint Pierre. Further afield in the region around Saint-Siméon are the historic site of Abbaye Notre-Dame et Saint-Pierre and the historic site of Abbaye de Jouy-le-Châtel. The Source de la Voulzie is also located further afield in the region around Saint-Siméon.

Trails

The long-distance hiking trail GR 14, the Sentier des Ardennes, runs from Coulommiers to Reuil via Saint-Siméon.
