In the surroundings of Mitry-Mory, the Moulin des Marais wetland is the last surviving remnant of one of the largest marshlands in Île-de-France. At the same time, Moulin des Marais features rare alkaline peat bogs of Île-de-France. In the northern forest of Moulin des Marais, located near Mitry-Mory, walkers can discover a mysterious “menhir” beneath hawthorn trees.

The Bois du Moulin des Marais is classified as an Espace naturel Sensible (ENS) in order to preserve its woodland and open part of the area to the public. The Espace naturel régional du Moulin des Marais can be reached via Mitry-Claye station on the RER B.

Culture and Townscape

The Church of Saint-Martin is protected as a historic monument. Saint-Martin also features a large salamander figure associated with Francis I, as well as the painting “The Adoration of the Magi” by Gabriel-François Doyen, which is listed as heritage. The allotment gardens of the Cité en Bois are recorded in the French General Inventory of Cultural Heritage.

The “du tour de ville” circular route runs around the Bourg as an educational trail and showcases Mitry-Mory’s architectural, historical and natural heritage. Through its membership in the Association des Cinémas de Recherche d’Ile-de-France (ACRIF) and the Association Française des Cinémas d’Art et d’Essai (AFCAE), the Le Concorde cinema supports art-house and arthouse films for adults and young audiences.

History

The Cité des cheminots is a garden city built in 1925, with social semi-detached houses, landscaped gardens and communal facilities. The old vault of the main staircase is all that remains of the Château de Bois-le-Vicomte. The communal apiary showcases beekeeping products.
