The Musée de Préhistoire d’Île-de-France in Nemours presents the major stages of prehistory and protohistory in the Île-de-France region – from the earliest hunters to the first metalworkers. The museum is located in Nemours on the edge of the forest. A free visitor app in French and English is available for smartphones and tablets.
The Château-Musée de Nemours is one of the few surviving urban castles from the 12th century in the Île-de-France region and houses around 25,000 works of graphic art, painting and sculpture. The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste was founded in 1170 by Gautier I. de Nemours and has been classified as a Monument historique since 1977. La Minoterie (Le Moulin de Nemours) is located on the site of former seigneurial mills dating from the 12th century.

Nature
In the centre of Nemours, the Île du Perthuis is a Natura 2000 nature area on the banks of the Loing and next to the former mills. A footbridge on the Île du Perthuis allows visitors to observe plant and animal biodiversity and enjoy views of the Loing and the Château-Musée. Canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding and trips in electric boats are possible on the Loing near Nemours.
Trails
The Circuit touristique de Nemours invites visitors to explore the town’s historic centre on foot. The GR13 passes through landscapes in Nemours such as the communal forest; the historic centre is home to the 12th-century Château-Musée and the banks of the Loing.
The Le Rocher Vert circular trail leads through the Forest of Nemours to the Grotte des Troglodytes and to a viewpoint overlooking the Loing Valley. A marked loop through the communal forest of Nemours leads to various viewpoints, former sand pits and bizarrely shaped rocks.
