Landscape and Nature

La Chapelle-Rablais lies in a clearing in the heart of central Brie. A road connects the centre of La Chapelle-Rablais and the hamlet of Les Montils with the entrance to the Villefermoy Forest.

Part of La Chapelle-Rablais belongs to the Massif de Villefermoy Natura 2000 site (FR1112001). At least 122 bird species have been recorded in the Massif de Villefermoy, including 26 considered noteworthy at regional level. A footpath managed by the ONF runs along the ru des Prés des Vallées.

History and Culture

The first settlement was established after the medieval clearing of the Grande Haie de Brie, which marked the boundary between Île-de-France and Champagne. The Château des Moyeux was built in 1848 on the foundations of an older hunting lodge. Éléonore Vergeot, the mistress of Napoleon III, later lived at the Château des Moyeux.

The village still has a métier à ferrer les bœufs, an ox-shoeing frame, which is considered a historical curiosity; only two such examples remain in Seine-et-Marne. It bears witness to the area's former agricultural activities and was intended primarily for oxen. The Church of Saint-Bon in La Chapelle-Rablais was restored in the 19th century.

It starts at La Chapelle-Rablais Town Hall and is rated moderate. A short detour leads to the entrance gate of the Château des Moyeux, from which there is a beautiful view of the château. At the end of the loop, there is a washhouse beside a pond.
