There has been human settlement in Bannost-Villegagnon since the Bronze Age. Bannost is mentioned in a text from 1154. In 1174, Villegagnon is documented under the name Villa Gazonis.

Culture and History
The Église Saint-Pierre de Villegagnon was built between 1622 and 1624, after Villegagnon had been separated from Bannost as its own parish. Its current stained-glass windows were created as part of renovation work that began in 2009.
The Marguerite bell is also part of the church’s history: it dates from 1757 and was recast in 1884. The panels appear to have come from Jouy Abbey.
Paths and Nature
The footpath in Villegagnon, completed in June 2024, connects Rue de la Tour with the skate park and the cemetery. The Voie verte in Bannost-Villegagnon was inaugurated in May 2024.

Events
In the Seine-et-Marne département, the INVENTIO festival combines the rediscovery of cultural and natural treasures with concerts, new creations, performances, workshops and cultural gatherings. The 2026 edition is the festival’s 11th edition.
The programme for the 2026 INVENTIO festival includes a four-hand piano recital by Virgile Roche and Pierre-Marie Gasnier at the Église de Bannost-Villegagnon on 28 September. The programme features works by Debussy, Dukas, Schubert and Feldman.
