Trails and nature

The GR 11 crosses the town centre of Saint-Chéron and the Orge before ascending to the southeastern plateau towards the commune of Souzy-la-Briche.

The Chemins des sangliers comprise three playful circular trails along which visitors can discover the lanes and streets of Saint-Chéron. Small wild boar markers point the way along the trails. They are coloured differently depending on the route; the wild boar’s head indicates the direction of travel in each case.

The Prairie de Saint-Evroult is designated as an Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS) and includes an area intended for walks near the Orge. It comprises a wet meadow and a natural pond area fed by numerous springs, located in the area of a former diverted section of the river. Every year, ducks and moorhens raise their young there, and frogs can be seen, along with a heron that appears daily.

The Étang de la Juinière was created on the site of a former clay pit. Clay was extracted from the pit because of its high kaolin content; today, the pond is used by anglers and walkers alike.

Culture and history

The church of Saint-Chéron houses a polychrome-painted wooden statue of the Vierge à l’Enfant dating from the 17th century. The original church had the appearance of a fortified church due to its square crenellated tower.

The Château de Baville is a French château in the Louis XIII style; the château and its two parks are located within the territory of the commune of Saint-Chéron. The present-day Château de Baville was built between 1625 and 1629. All of its outbuildings, the two walled parks and their park structures were entered on the supplementary inventory of historic monuments by decree of 22 October 1990.

The Écomusée de Saint-Chéron offers a permanent exhibition about former local occupations in Saint-Chéron. It also offers visits by appointment for groups and school groups.

Saint-Chéron railway station is served by trains on RER line C.
